...As far as I have seen tag team rping has been judged differently in every single fed I have ever been in. I adopted the style of judging tag team matches from the way it was done in New Edge Wrestling. Now full disclosure the OPW Style of judging Tag Teams makes it difficult for one handler teams to function but let's just say that is a kink I'm currently working out. But more on that in just a bit. First allow me to break down how OPW staff judges Tag Team/ Team Gimmick Match rps.
I. TEAM WORK
The main component that we look for when judging tag team roleplays is how well the teammates work together. The idea is to develop a concept and then execute to where the rps flow into one another or are connected in some capacity. For instance when I was in NEW I was in a stable called the cRu and we went into a 3 Team War Game Match with three teams of 5. Now bare in mind this was during the good ole days when you had to do two rps. The concept we came up with was cRu School. The first set of rps we were students and the second set we were the teachers. It was the same idea executed in our own way and they flowed in and out of one another. This is just one example because as long as you find a way to demonstrate that you are working with your teammate(s) in some capacity you should be good to go.
The reason we do it this way is because just like the quick paced style of tag team wrestling that most of the mdern wrestling fans think the Young Bucks invented, but was actually first popularised by teams like The Eliminators, Edge & Christian, The Dudley Boys, The New Age Outlaws, The Hardy Boyz, MotorCity Machine Guns, AMW, Beer Money etc one of the thing that made the tag team matches during that era so incredible to watch was the innovative and quick paced tag team work that the teams mentioned above adopted and executed to sheer perfection. It promotes working together and makes this game more enjoyable. Because reading two flawlessly executed tag team rps with this style and you truly do read something special. Teams like Tat-N-Fat (Inkt & Ryan Pugh) DomestiK DisturbancE (LA Johnny Stylez & Hunter Valentyne) Verge of Greatness (AL Envy & Chester) Slated 4 Goodness (Matt Slater & XXX) Guilty Pleasure (Shane Sparx & Jarek Whitaker), The MisFits (Chip Shiller & Tommy Kain) And Aurora Deadwoof and Apathy, Seth Iser & Nocturnal executed this to perfection and it was some of the funniest and most creative work I have seen to this day. You go to the NEW website now and find a Tat n Fat rps and if you aren't thoroughly entertained then you don't like this game and just don't have a sense of humor.
But we spend a lot of time playing this game with one another finding someone you can work with on that kind of level adds another level of intrigue and offers a unique set of challenges that I find make this game much more fun to play from a reading and writing aspect. And it also serves as motivation working with a partner and seeing your ideas become one. I've found more times often than not teams are quite pleased with the result of working together. As you ask anyone involved with those teams I just mentioned and they will be able to tell you first hand how tag team rping was one of the funniest, enjoyable, and memorable moments of their rping careers. From a personal stand point I was almost ready to walk away from the game because I suffered a bit of a losing streak, but then I formed DomestiK DisturbancE with Hunter and within 3 months Hunter and I were the NEW Tag Team Champions (we never lost the 1st ones) and I finally found my groove and took back my NEW World Heavyweight Title, so in a sense it was working with Hunter who he and I shared a similar mindset at the time and it was through that that I was able to refresh my character and created some of the most memorale moments, feuds, ad matches in the history of NEW.
So suffice to say Tag Team Rping in OPW is judged the exact same. Team Work Element of it is an abslute necessity, because without it you are just two people out there fighting and well in the sene of being realistic if two random people team together against a well oiled machine like Tat-N-Fat they are going to loose 11 times out of 10! So moving forward know that if you are booked in a tag team match you do need to get on the same page as your partner and find a way to make sure that aspect of your rps is there...And then you can come an thank me later because I assure you it is one of the most enjoyable ways to play this game of ours. That is why I hold 4 TAG WARZ events a year.
II. Creativity
The other aspect is of course creativity. How you execute your joint concept is entirely up to you. I for one always appreciate people who strive to innovate and deliever things as uniquely as possible. Two heads are better than one and you'd be surprised how ideas can come to life just by kicking it around with a partner or partners. But just like when we sit down to judge singles rps we are looking for the more entertaining and better executed concept. Double the people in the match comes with double the expectation, and really here in OPW we give you enough free reign to write what you want at whatever length you want that really the only limiations are the ones you place on yourselves.
III. Execution
Just like in singles rps how you choose to portray your idea and execute your rps has a lot to do with it as well. Ive seen people have brilliant concepts but poor execution by on or both phucks the whole thing up. Once upon a time there was this stable in NEW called the Business. It was a super stable comprised of Myself, Ryan Pugh, Jesse Styles, Roger Wright and Hunter Valentyne. We headed to our war games match where we were the heavy favorites but we wound up losing because Hunter came in somewhere in the middle with his first rp and poorly executed his idea and pissed Ryan off so bad it caused us to crumble from the inside and we lost a match from a talent perspective we should have run away with. Sometimes it can be a bit of a process and sometime you just fall flat. But still do what you can to ensure that the way you execute your joint idea is done in the best way possible because it's not just your ass that is on the line.
All in all if you look at the landscape of pro wrestling and think about pro wrestlings greatest eras the back bone of those eras was tag team wrestling. Be it the 80's the WWF had Demolition, Mega-Powers, Money INC, Natural Disasters, The Rockers, Hart Foundation, Nasty Boys etc while wrestling in the south thrived off of tag team wrestling as there were nights when The Rock n Roll Express vs The MidNight Express would sell out the fucking SUPERDOME! Not to mention The Road Warriors and The Horsemen...And then the attitude era There were The Steiners, The Outsiders, Harlem Heat, Edge & Christian, NEW AGE OUTLAWS, HARDY'S, DUDLEY'S ETC and then even during the ROH TNA dyas YoungBucks, American Wolves Motor City MAchine Guns, Beer Money Britih Invasion, Kevin Steen & El Generico, The Briscoes some of the best wrestling matches I have ever seen were tag team matches. Not to mention most of the biggest stars in the business started out as tag team wrestlers LiKe
Stone Cold Steve Austin
Bret Hart
Shawn Micheals
Edge
Jeff Hardy
Sting
Ultimate Warrior
Undertaker
Scott Hall
Scott Steiner
Booker T
CM Punk
AJ Styles
Adam Cole
Brock Lesnar
Just to name a few...But rping Tag Team rping provides an entirely different avenue and a way to refresh your char. ANd that is why I will stop at nothing until OPW has the most competitve and strongest tag team division the rp world has ever seen. But I can't do it without you guys. So as of this moment if you made it this far consider yourselves encouraged to at one point or another during your tenure here find a partner and help make the tag team division what I hope it can be. Because with all the talent on this roster and still to come. For as long as some of us have known one another the history between the chars alone is enough to get something going. And I give you my word you will create stuff that not only you but the rest of us remember for a lifetime. Thank you for your time and I truly hope this cleared things up and hopefully inspired some of you to try tag team rping our way.
Now I did bring up one handler tag teams and like I said I am still trying to figure how they fit into all of this because if someone wants to be a one handler tag team then more power to them, but just know I am leaning towards saying that all tag team matches are required two rps/ A joint rp is one thing but to me if they are going up against a well oiled Tat-N-Fat Domestik DisturbancE esq team even the best joint rp in the world doesnt beat out two strong quality rps that hit on all categories I listed above. But I have been proven wrong before, so for the time being joint rps are still allowed in tag team matches but just be wary because you are going to have to work extra hard to beat out your competition. But like I said we are still figuring it out so whenever we do you all will be the first to know.
If any of you have anything to add please feel free. otherwise Ill catch you asshats later...Now go RP!
